B.C.M. Aryans on Greening the Barren Land
For combating desertification, land degradation and drought under the aegis of National Environment Awareness Campaign. The resource person was Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Associate Director of Kethi Virasat Mission of North India. The Main aim of the workshop was to create awareness on the issue of ‘Cultivation of Barren Land to Green Belts’. The students were apprised about the Kitchen gardening pattern to grow seasonal vegetables at home.
They were also shown practical implementation of growing vegetables in cans/bags using the natural materials and manures.
Under this project a piece of land has been selected in the school premises for kitchen gardening and medical plants.
This project has received grant of ₹ 10,000/- from the Central Government.
Ocean Conservation Trophy
B.C.M. Aryans were awarded a Trophy by CMDE Rajan Vir (Rtd.), the President of Indian Maritime Foundation for ‘Ocean Conversation’ in Pune.
Save Birds Awareness Campaign
Dainik Bhaskar group had an interactive session with Green School Programme students and showed them a presentation under ‘Save Birds’ project.
Globe Science Olympiad Award Function
On the occasion of Earth Day, Rishabh Jain of IX-A got a prize from Dr. Deshbandhu, the President of Indian Environment Society. He got fifth position in Globe Science Olympiad examination.
Wipro Earthian Orientation Programme
Keeping up with the spirit of Earth Day, B.C.M. Arya became the proud host of an action oriented green teachers ‘Wipro Earthian Orientation Programme on the theme “Water and Sustainability” and “Sustainability of Biodiversity” for selected schools of Ludhiana.
WIPRO associated Mr. Ashish Shah, the resource person for the training programme highlighted the Earthian schools programme focusing on water and biodiversity management at the school level.
Mr. Abhinav Thakur, another resource person from WIPRO shared the vision of creating an informed society by nurturing sustainability ideas with a core objective of integrating sustainability education into school curriculum.
WIPRO Green Earthian Award 2016
B.C.M. Arya bagged the WIPRO Green Earthian Award 2016 at National Level for Sustainability and Biodiversity. The award comprised of a cash prize of One Lakhcertificates and WIPRO Earthian Award title plate.
River cleanup activity by B.C.M. Arya
In its attempt to save river water , B.C.M. Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Shastri nagar Ludhiana organized its annual project on “awareness for cleanup oceans and rivers “ under the aegis of International Coastal Cleanup, Washington D.C and Indian Maritime Foundation, Pune.
Nearly 100n students from 7 city schools viz. St.Thomas Sr. Sec. School, Saraswati model sr. Sec. School, Blossom Convent School, Tagore public school, GNI Public School, HVM Convent Sr. Sec. School, Jesus Sacred Heart School participated in the project with full enthusiasm.
The excited students carried placards displaying the message on the theme ‘Cleanup Rivers AND Oceans ‘. They had the firsthand experience how the river water is so much polluted because of human follies. Wearing masks and gloves, they collected waste from river bank and filled the data cards about the type of waste and other details.
An awareness message was also conveyed by the young brigade from the river bank to the passers-by to not to throw non-biodegradable waste in the river water and save aquatic ecosystem.
Each school team was accompanied by their school gardeners and they planted saplings of Peepal, Neem, Jamun, and Amaltus at the river bank.
Dr. Paramjit Kaur thanked the school principals for their kind cooperation and active participation of their school team for the noble cause.
